Born in Newark, she resided in Union before settling in Toms River 20 years ago.
Prior to retiring, Dolores was a teacher for the Newark Board of Education, where she taught for 30 years. She was a Sunday school teacher for St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Newark, where she was a choir member and church leader. Dolores was also an active member and Past President of the Holiday Heights First Aid Squad.
She was predeceased by her loving husband and first and only boyfriend, John, in 2004.
Surviving are her children, John Tavares, Jr. and his wife Erin of Little Silver; and Robin Tavares Barney and her husband Mark; and 4 grandchildren: Evan & Carla Barney, and Jack & Nora Tavares.
A private cremation for Dolores will be held under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holiday Heights First Aid Squad.
