Oma, as she was known to family, friends and neighbours, lived a long and fascinating life. She witnessed all the major events of the 20th century: born in Bukovina in what is now northern Romania, she learned how to be resourceful through the travails of living through the Great Depression, wartime and displacement. At the age of 40 she immigrated to Canada with her family and made a new life, literally out of nothing. She raised a family and they prospered through her hard work, determination and perseverance. She was also known as the “Queen of Seaton Street” in Cabbagetown, having become its oldest and longest-time resident.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Victor (1964) and dear daughters Hildegard (1973), Gertude (2008) and Ottilie (2009).
Survived by her treasured grandchildren Victor Hibovski, Sandra Hibovski (Steve), Shelly Andersen (Jeff), Barbara Randall (Jim), Robert Milkovich (Bill), Shelley Knapp (Lorne), Debbie Walton, and great-grandchildren Alexis Brenner (Andrew), Kasey Andersen, Rachel Knapp and Caleb Knapp.
