Suddenly at home, after a brief illness in his 83rd year on July 18, 2013. Ken was born in Windsor, Ontario on June 24th 1930 and raised in St. Thomas, Ontario. After graduating from The University of Western Ontario, he married Doreen Gooderham in St. Thomas on July 3, 1954. He was a high school teacher for many years in both Hay River, Alberta and Toronto, Ontario.
After retiring from teaching, Ken found a new career that allowed him to be close to what he loved most – books. He managed Toronto’s Lichtman’s Bookstores for many years before retiring for a second time to immerse himself in reading, gardening and walking his loyal beagle, Bonnie. At 75, he bought a computer and taught himself to use it in order to research and write an extensive history of his family and their heritage of shipbuilding and of course, to order a constant supply of books from around the world.
Ken was predeceased by his wife Doreen, his brother Douglas Keith, his father John Tait Keith and mother Lillian May (Hodgson) Keith. He leaves behind his sister Jean Keith Wixson (Walter) of Whiting, New Jersey, his nieces Julie Keith Waterhouse and Brenda Wixson Donnelly and many great-nieces and nephews across the United States. He will be dearly missed by his many friends, fellow dog park denizens, and all those that loved to chat with him about gardening, books and politics.
At Ken’s request, there will not be a service, but you may share your condolences and special memories of Ken with his family and friends by entering them in the Guestbook below.
