

Algirdas (Algerd) Basiulis passed away on February 11, 2023 at the age of 92. He was born in Lithuania to Bronius and Petronele Basiulis on January 27, 1931 and came to the United States in 1949. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 and attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he met his wife, Danute, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1967, a job at Hughes Aircraft brought him with his family to Torrance. Algerd had an illustrious career as a mechanical engineer for 40 years and was an internationally recognized expert in heat pipe technology, holding several patents in that field. He was a proud recipient of the Lawrence A. Hyland Patent Award in 1986. He loved to ski and hit the slopes all over the world until well past his 80th birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gediminas, and niece, Vida Basiulis. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Danute, daughter Laima Reeder (Chris), son Algis (Karen), granddaughter Tessa Reeder, grandson Sean Reeder (Alexa), nephew Jonas Basiulis, cousin Mindaugas Petrulis (Soraya), and other cousins in the United States and Lithuania.
