Passed away at Papa's Mountain on July 24, 2003. He was born in Florida on February 7, 1928. He worked for the City of Torrance for over 30 years and retired as the Director of the Torrance Water Department. Preceded in death by his son Paul; survived by his loving Wife of 55 years Esther; his children Deryl (Linda), Linda Swank (Brian), John Jr. (Deena), grandchildren; Sierra Schmidt (John), Briana, Cary, Samantha, John Jr. the 3rd, Lindsie Swank, and Briann Swank; great grandson Lukas Schmidt. The viewing will be at RICE MORTUARY, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503 on Thursday, July 31, 2003 from 4PM to 8PM. A graveside service will be at Green Hills on Friday, August 1, 2003 at 11 AM.
