

L.D. Hoaglund, age 74, of Mesick, formerly of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, May 27, 2012, with his family at his side. He was born May 14, 1938 in Tustin to Leo A. and Pauline (Davis) Hoaglund. On January 2, 1971 L.D. married Wilma Slaughter in Traverse City.
L.D. worked as a truck driver and retired from Total Oil as a Gauger. He was a member of the Eagles, T.R.C.C. Snowmobile Club, Buckley Old Engine Thrasher Club, and a previous member of the Lions. He enjoyed Hunting, fishing, camping, and he was often found joking with his family.
He will be missed by his wife of 41 years Wilma; children: Patti Hoaglund of Traverse City, Robin (Dave) Nickels of Traverse City, Mary (Steve) Plamondon of Honor, Sandy (Ivan) Baldwin of Manton, and Paul (Jennifer) Hoaglund of Mesick; 9 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 4 siblings: Sharon (Dave) Dickinson, Ann Marie (Keith) Holmes, Vernon (Tana) Hoaglund, and Elmo (Leora) Hoaglund; many nieces and nephews.
L.D. was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, with visitation 1 hour prior. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions in L.D.’s name may be directed to the Leader Dog’s for the Blind, C/O Mesick Lions Club, P.O. Box 456, Mesick MI 49668.
Burial will be at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
