Lucile Parks Shirley, 101, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 after a long and beautiful life. She was born in Gainesville, GA on February 3rd, 1918, daughter of Porter and Leila Parks. She has gone to join her beloved husband of forty-eight years, Ralph “Bad Eye” Shirley. Lucile was the beloved matriarch of a very large Georgia family. During her long life “Mama Cile” was the selfless and nurturing “mother” to fifteen siblings, one daughter and son-in-law, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, hundreds of nieces and nephews and thousands of friends and acquaintances. Lucile lived her life to be Christ to everyone she encountered in each of the 36,898 days of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Price Stansell and her husband, Jack Stansell; grandchildren Jeff Stansell, Steve Stansell (Judy) and Christie McConaghy (Paul); great-grandchildren Kristen Stott (Jason), Michael Stansell (Ashley), Megan Stansell, Matthew Stansell (Cheyenne), Morgan Stansell, Jessica McConaghy, Lauren McConaghy, Sean McConaghy, and Kevin McConaghy and great-great grandchildren Jackson, Wesley and William Stott. She is one of 16 children and is survived by sisters: Corene Heard, Genevieve Fletcher, Gertie Bell, Sally Thomas, Betty Ewer; and brothers: Virgil Parks and John Parks.
