Always described as a "little firecracker" by her daughters, because of her zest for life, bright spirit and active lifestyle, Ollie Mae Romard, age 91 of Tucker, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, the 4th of July, 2020 - a day that describes her life perfectly.
Born to the late William H. Dailey and Elsie Mae Dailey of Uriah, AL on March 28, 1929, she was the second oldest of 12 children.
After high school and Business College in Birmingham, AL, she wanted to experience "the city". Ollie moved to Washington , D.C. and landed a job with the FBI. Sharing an apartment with a few girls led her to a blind date with her future husband, Richard, a soon to be Officer in the Army. They married 6 months later and remained married for 40 years until Richard's passing in 1995.
During Richard's military years, Ollie experienced living in different U.S. cities and Gelnhausen, Germany. She took opportunities to travel, explore and try new interests like painting. She enjoyed it and actually became quite good and continued painting throughout her life - winning many awards and selling her artwork along the way. She was a member of the Atlanta Artists Club, The DeKalb Council of the Arts, and the Art Station.
When Richard retired from the Army, they moved to Atlanta (Tucker) with their daughters. Ollie was very social, active in the garden club, a swim team mom, homemaker, and artist.
She later went to work at Equifax, and then Bank of America until retiring.
She discovered golf when tagging along with Richard on day on the course. She enjoyed telling Richard what he was doing wrong with his swing! They were long time members of Summit Chase C.C., where they both were avid golfers and met many wonderful friends. After Richard's passing Ollie continued to play golf and was a regular player with the ladies Wednesday Wackers.
Ollie continued to remain active with exercise, art classes and playing 18 holes of golf, if she could get anyone to play that many holes! She enjoyed painting, "laughing it up" with her friends, visiting family, traveling and spending the best times with her four grandchildren who describe her as "sassy" and her two daughters and son-in-laws who admired her tenacity and will miss her dearly!
She is survived by her daughters: Karen (Danny) Watts, Kathy (David) Wolstenholme, grandchildren: Lauren Watts, Leah Watts, Evan Watts and Erik Wolstenholme, sisters and brothers: Mattie Lou Dailey, LaNell (Ray) Cochran, Glenda Price, Joe Dailey, Sammy Dailey, Sister-in-laws: Betty Dailey (Jim), Linda Dailey (Van), Brother-in-Law: Tom Romard (Jean) and many nieces and nephews. She will be reunited with her siblings who previously passed: Dorothy, Jim, Sarah, Bobbie, William, and Van
A private family service will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker followed by a graveside service at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA on Fri., July 17th.
Due to the national pandemic, a Memorial and Life Celebration of Ollie's family and friends will be held at a later date in a few months with information to follow.
