

Born in Detroit, MI, in 1934 to Richard and Mildred Shefferly, Lois, her parents and sister traveled across-country the summer before Lois began Jr. High School, to plant their roots in Tucson, AZ. Lois graduated from Tucson High School in 1952 and briefly attended the University of Arizona before beginning a long career in savings and loan, which included working for Pima Savings, Home Federal Savings and Loan and Saguaro Credit Union. Lois enjoyed retirement from banking for a few years before briefly returning to work for FedEx.
Lois married George L. Rex in 1960, they later divorced in 1987. Throughout her life, Lois enjoyed playing bridge and was the member of several bridge clubs in Tucson. For many years she was also an avid bowler, playing in many local Tucson bowling leagues. Lois was also a long-time member of Catalina Junior Women’s Club, at one time serving as their President. During her presidential tenure, Lois was instrumental in building a braille trail in Saguaro National Park in Tucson, which is remains part of the Park’s accessibility trails, with her club members and their families. With an army of dedicated moms, Lois was also actively involved in bringing Kindergarten to Whitmore Elementary School, originally located in a small building located northeast of the main school building, before Kindergarten was a regular part of the TUSD curriculum. She enjoyed watching old black and white movies and telling stories about her childhood, which included spending summers in Pentwater, Mi. In June, 2018, Lois moved to Las Vegas, where she lived with her daughter, Jill, and her family, until her passing.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Gary A. Rex. Lois is survived by her sister, Sue Adams and children; Julie (Tim) Mueller, Mark (Kevin Luber) Rex and Jill (Dan) Davis, in addition to nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lois will be inurned at East Lawn in Tucson, next to her beloved son, later this summer.
