Tippy Von Sharon Atkins
April 22, 1966 – March 11, 2019
The world was blessed with Tippy Von Sharon Atkins on April 22, 1966. Her smile was infectious and could change anyone’s mood. Tippy was a woman of many titles, but her most honored and cherished title was Mother, and grandmother. Tippy leaves behind 6 children and 7 grandchildren (listed eldest to youngest); Vanessa Powell, George W. DuBose III, James J. Simpson, Clevana J. Simpson, Jessica S. Simpson, Jimmy J. Cephus Jr. Her grandchildren (listed eldest to youngest); Christian D. Powell, Jackson J. Powell, Jocelynn M. Powell, Genevae P. DuBose, Diomani M. DuBose, Saiveon J. McGee, Ariella M. McGee. If you were to ask anyone who knew Tippy what she loved the most they would all undeniably reply with her children and her grandchildren. Tippy had an appreciation for her family that many never have. This is because Tippy lost her family for many years to the shackles of drug addiction. This addiction lead her on a journey that took her down many avenues and tunnels during her lifetime that many people can never imagine. Her son James likes to compare her life journey to that of Jesus’ because she walked, talked, healed, and prayed with people that the world had written off as hopeless. After years on the streets, she found herself at the corner of 22nd street and Craycroft. Her only possession was a crack pipe. She asked a store attendant to call her an ambulance and she requested they take her to St. Joseph’s hospital to chemically detox from drugs. This led her to The Gospel Rescue Mission. After completing The Gospel Rescue Missions life-changing program Tippy went on to do exponential things. She went from homeless to homeowner. Tippy became a minister. The leader of her own recovery group. An author. A recovery coach coordinator at CODAC Behavioral health. The recipient of her bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University, but the most important thing to her is that she got to be a mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, and mentor again. Although Tippy leaves behind a plethora of people that will miss her, we will all see her again. If there’s anyone attending Tippy’s services that doesn’t know Jesus- Yahweh as their personal savior or if you would like to rededicate your life to The Lord, please let any of her children or Pastor Barney Hilton Murray know and we will lead you to The King so that you can fellowship with our Mother Tippy again! “Our mother had a passion for telling her story. She wanted everyone to know what God delivered her from. Our mother made sure to live a life that reflected the life and love of Jesus-Yahweh, and she did it on purpose. If there’s any way to honor her it will be to live a life reflective of God’s unfailing love. Thank you for loving her with us. Thank you for all your calls, text, and visits. We love the way you loved our mother, and we all want to thank you for celebrating her life with us today.” - Vanessa, George, James, Clevana, Jessica, Jared
