Heidelinde Wagner Bass December 19th 1938 - January 3rd, 2021

Heidelinde Wagner Bass, 82 of Olympia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 3rd, 2021. Heidi was born in Dachau, Germany to Josef and Katharina (Ostermair) Wagner. She arrived in the US as an adventurous teenager on July 17, 1956 and lived with family in Albany, NY for several years before following her parents and siblings to Olympia, WA.

Heidi proudly attained her citizenship in 1963. She worked for a time for her brother Rudy at Wagner's European Bakery & Cafe where friends and family have gathered for many years. She went on to attend secretarial school and secured a position with the state where she worked for over forty years, primarily for the Department of Agriculture.

Her life always revolved around her daughters Stefani and Michelle. As a single mother, Heidi went out of her way to see to it that her girls had everything they needed, often sacrificing herself to ensure a comfortable life for them.

In midlife, Heidi met retired Navy seal, David Lee Bass. They married in 1995 and spent an adventurous time together until his death in 2003.

Heidi enjoyed travel, gardening, her pets, wildlife and walking in nature. Most of all, she enjoyed quality time with her family. She was known for her child-like sense of humor, optimism, special touch in all that she did, quick but soon-to-forgive temper, honesty, directness and loyalty to her loved ones.

Heidi was predeceased by her parents, Josef and Katharina (Ostermair) Wagner, husband, David Lee Bass, brother, Rudy Wagner, and sisters Louise Perkinson and Rosa Hicker. She is survived by her sister, Finy Anderson, daughters Jacqueline Wagner and Stefania (Len) Garofoli, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or an animal rescue group of your choice.

Due to current state restrictions, please contact Mills & Mills to check space availability before attending the service. You may also follow the service on the Mills & Mills facebook page.

So sorry to hear of Heidi’s passing. I knew her a long time ago. I remember her for her kindness, her generosity and her sense of humor. When I knew her, the role she enjoyed most was as mother to Michelle and Stephanie. This is how I will remember her. I am glad that I was able to spend some time with her at Rudy’s funeral services. I am sorry that I couldn’t attend any of Heidi’s services because of COVID. My deepest sympathies to Heidi’s family. Sad times.
