Mr. Goins was born September 27, 1954, in Williamson, WV, to the late Willie Ivan and Minnie Alice Goins. He was raised in Kentucky where he started his life long career as a Coal Miner. Always a hard worker, he moved to Alabama, where he worked for Jim Walter Resources for over 40 years. An avid deer hunter, David enjoyed being outside, he had a green thumb and he took pride in his yard. A Kentucky Wildcat at heart (especially basketball), he grew to love Alabama Crimson Tide Football. He never met a stranger, was fun to be around, an excellent jokester and phenomenal story teller. He made friends easily and was always “the life of the party”. Though he loved his friends, he was a passionate family man, a wonderful provider, he was smart and frugal. He loved being able to find a bargain, and knew the value of a dollar. He missed his out of town family dearly and was “Everyone’s Favorite Uncle”. He was a wonderful husband, father and especially proud of his title of “PawPaw” and the active role he was able to play in the lives of his grandchildren. Silly songs, and being able to play with his grands will always be among some of their most cherished memories. His grandchildren thought he hung the moon. No doubt about it Christmas was always his most favorite holiday (the more lights the merrier). David was very proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He will be missed by many. His wife Connie says: “I love you and I will miss you.”
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald “Donnie” Keith Goins and Gregory Dean Goins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Connie Sue Nelson Goins; daughters Pasha Goins McAbee (Brian) and Fallon Goins Evans (Lee); son David Hunter Goins; grandchildren: Brady McAbee, Mary Hollis McAbee, Nelson McAbee, Fisher Evans, Carrington Evans, Bentlee Evans and Vivian Lee Evans; two sisters: Connie Jean Dean (Rick) of Charleston, WV and Paula Marian (Ben) of Aflex, KY, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be David Nelson, Rick Dean, Jimmy Porter, Dale Montgomery, Evan Dean, Brian McAbee, Lee Evans and Larry Spencer. Recognized as Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald Montgomery and his grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to the ICU Staff at DCH and Independent Care.
