Joyce Rae Barber

January 18, 1950June 10, 2018

Joyce R (Ohnemus) Barber was born January 18th 1950 in Chelan Washington, to Jim and Eddie Ohnemus, and passed away peacefully June 10th 2018 at home in Twin Falls surrounded by family.

Joyce was an active campfire counselor with her sister Jan and family friends for many years at a girl’s camp in Coeur d’Alene. She loved the beach and Tubs Hill at Coeur d’ Alene Lake. She attended Catholic school for her formal education.

After high school Joyce attended The College of Northern Idaho briefly and then moved to Boise to attend BSU where she met the love of her life “Red” Lawrence Eugene Barber. In 1972 Joyce and Red decided to get married instead of finishing school. They moved to Coeur d' Alene where Candace Marie was born in 1973. Red, Joyce and Candace moved to the Magic Valley in 1976. Joyce worked at Tupperware for many years and eventually Target and Barnes and Noble where she retired. In 1979, their son, James Bruce, was born. They moved to Twin Falls in 1981 to a little house Joyce fell in love with and made Red buy right away. If you tear off the siding, you’ll still see “I hate painting”, painted on it by Red. Joyce enjoyed literature and being outside with Red and the kids. Joyce was usually just along for the ride and content just being there. She would bring a bright smile and a carefree attitude to all she did. Joyce had a fun sense of humor and an ornery temperament at times, but was down to earth and had no enemies.

A verse from a poem Joyce gave Red on their wedding day. “You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Jim Ohnemus and her husband, “Red” Lawrence Barber. She is survived by her daughter, Candace (Moss) of Twin Falls; son, Jim (Melissa) of Boise; her grandchildren, Quentin, Anika, Rowan, Cody, Shawn, Paul, Austin, Lily, Emily, Parker, Chase and Kambrea. Her mother, Eddie Ohnemus; brothers, Rob and Rick as well as her sisters, Jan, Julie, Jody and Jill.

Joyce asked for no service. She was a simple woman. Her ashes will be spread with Red’s in the Sawtooth Mountains at a later date. In lieu of flowers Joyce has asked for a donation to Camp Rainbow Gold which is a camp for children diagnosed with cancer.

Arrangements are under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
