OBITUARY

Margaret J. Pratt

May 22, 1926January 14, 2017

Margaret June “Peg” Pratt, longtime resident of Twin Falls, ID and formerly of Oakland, MD, and Webster Springs, WV, passed away on January 14, 2017 in Twin Falls.

She was born on May 22, 1926 in Webster Springs (also known as Addison), WV, to Richard F. and June (Wooddell) Marsh. Always an outstanding student, she graduated third in her class at Webster Springs High School and then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and the University of Virginia.

In 1952, she married Thomas J. Pratt of Kitzmiller, MD. While residing in Oakland, MD, Peg was employed at the Garrett County Welfare Board, the Garrett National Bank, and the First National Bank of Oakland. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and sang in their choir for years. In 1968, she moved to Twin Falls, ID, and began a career in the insurance field, working for the J.R. Simplot Company and for Sierra Life Insurance. Peg was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and sang in their choir, also. At more than one midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, the crowded and silent congregations were in awe of her solo singing of “O Little Town of Bethlehem.”

Peg belonged to the Twin Falls Audubon Society and a star-gazing group. She was an expert on birds and astronomy. A prodigious reader, her entire book collection was donated to the Twin Falls distribution center of the Idaho Youth Ranch. Her sense of humor kept us laughing in good times and bad, and we were strengthened by her always positive outlook.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Mary Ruth Treacy Babbitt, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and a beloved aunt, Kathryn “Kitty” Gonder, of Oakland, MD.

She is survived by her son, Joseph, of Boise, ID; her daughter, Betsy Nickels, her grandson, Andy (Shambray) Nickels, her two great-grandsons, Brayden and Drew Nickels, all of Idaho Falls, ID; an uncle, Dr. Hopwood (Karen) Wooddell, of Mt. Lake Park, MD; one niece, eight nephews, and several cousins.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered at the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge and interred at the Twin Falls Cemetery, next to her parents. A private service will be held at the cemetery later. Condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.reynoldschapel.com.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the Audubon Society, or Idaho Public TV, or the charity of your choice.

Peg’s family is very grateful for the excellent care she received at Bridgeview Nursing Home.

One of the wisest things Peg said was, “All life is a preparation for death, because death is the door to eternal life.” If you knew her, and want to honor her memory, go outside on a clear night, and holding the hand of someone you love, be amazed at the magnificent stars that God made for us.

Betsy, and all those saddened in the passing of one of God's
wonderful children who shared His Love w/others and
touched their life in a positive way.
My husband Al Greene served in the USArmy with Thomas.
I met a beautiful lady Peg & Thomas @ a reunion and other reunions once a year.
Immediately became friends with Dear Peg.
We drank hot tea as we shared many stories about
our life's journey. Laughing, giggling as girls do.
Also those that had touched our hearts and our
eyes would fill with water. Sometimes a tear would
wet our cheek.
She would Mail newspaper clippings & photos
keeping Al & me up to date w/local news.
Betsy, she was very proud of you when you
became a FBI agent. Of course, she adored
all of her family.
She took pieces of your heart with her and left you with pieces of
hers.
"To see the Rose is to know God...
to believe the Rose will bloom
again is to understand Eternity."
Every time someone says your Beautiful
Mother's name, she is alive!
Prayers & peace to all as you adjust
during this difficult time.
Remembering my Dear Friend Peg.

I moved into a house next door to Peg in 2007. She was always so sweet and friendly. Towards the end of when she lived next to me I would go and visit her as much as I could and we had some great talks. I missed her when she moved out, but I thought of her very often. I am so sorry for your loss; I know it is difficult as my own mother just recently passed away as well. God Bless you. Linda Brittsan
