Terry Lee Olen, 66, of Twin Falls passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by family and friends.

Terry was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Florence and George Olen, the youngest of four boys. He moved to Los Angeles, California at a young age and became a "California Boy" and graduated from University High School.

He joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Viet Nam from 1969-1971 in the 57th Transportation Company. As a Nam Nomad, he supported the transport of ordinance and supplies to fire bases south of the DMZ. Forty years later, he was able to reunite with many of the Nomads through their website.

Terry spent 35 years in the commercial laundry industry doing sales, service and repair of coin metered equipment.

On July 12, 1980, he married Karen Hirai in Los Angeles, California and his life and life style changed. Pre-Karen, he enjoyed camping and swimming with his buddies, the Flannery Clannery, an Irish family of 13 who adopted him as # 14. After a few years of marriage he learned to enjoy the pleasures of cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico and travel to Italy and visits and reunions with the Nam Nomads.

In 2006 he sold his business and retired to Twin Falls. He began to build doll houses that were works of art and blue ribbon winners at the Twin Falls County Fair.

Terry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen; his brother, John (Virginia) Olen of Las Vegas, Nevada; his niece, Nancy (Ron) Almadova of North Las Vegas, Nevada; his great niece, Brittnee Almadova of North Las Vegas, Nevada; his mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Hirai of Twin Falls, Idaho; his sister-in-law, Patricia Inouye of Boise, Idaho; his sister-in-law, Sue (Ken) Sogabe of Inglewood, California; his nephew, Darrick (Miki) Sogabe of San Diego, California; his great nieces, Miya and Kylie Sogabe of San Diego, California; his brothers and sisters of the heart, The Flannery Clannery.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, George and Joseph Olen, his father-in-law Tom Hirai and his brother-in-law Frank Hirai.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 161 6th Ave. East, Twin Falls with Fr. Kenneth Hein celebrating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors by the Magic Valley Honor Guard and Idaho National Guard. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening, June 9, 2014 at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, 2466 Addison Ave. East, Twin Falls. A viewing for family and friends will take place on Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be given in Terry’s name to La Pasada Ministry. Contributions may be given to funeral chapel staff or mailed to Reynolds Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1142, Twin Falls, Idaho 83303.
