Ethel Mae York

Ethel was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She set out to graduate x-ray school through Mother Frances, then went on to work for Dr. Daniel's office. Several years later her father, Harry A. Gooch, brought the family together from Harry A. Gooch Co. Inc. From there, Ethel moved on to Walmart to the cash office until she retired. Ethel married the love of her life, Joe, on December 20, 1965. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband. On June 9, 1970, she had her awesome daughter, Cathy. Then a surprise on August 22, 1974 came when she brought Dennis and Darin into the world! Ethel was there when Cathy found out she was pregnant. She stood by her daughter when she became a mother herself. Ethel was there for the important question of, is it a boy or girl? Ethel got her wish of a girl! She was there when her one and only granddaughter, Emilee, came into the world and was happily there for every moment thereafter. She could be a very stubborn woman, who absolutely adored her children and granddaughter. Ethel was always there to celebrate the happy times in life. She was there to wipe the tears away and guide us kids through the difficult times. Ethel loved to read a good book and play barbies with her granddaughter.Above all, spending quality time with her precious family was her favorite thing to do. Ethel will be dearly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Ethel is survived by her loving husband of almost 58 years, Joe York; children, Cathy (Craig) Minor, Dennis York, and Darin York; sister, Elizabeth Hill; granddaughter, Emilee Minor; sister-in-laws, Bobbie Jernigan and Brenda York; and brother-in-law, Jimmy York.

Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ethel Gooch.

A time of visitation for Ethel will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home. A private family graveside will take place at a later date.
