

John D. Covington of Tyler, Texas passed on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at his home. He was born in Tipton, Oklahoma, October 31, 1924 to his parents John Bunyan Covington and Freda Goss Covington, both had preceded him. John was married to Clarice Mabel Johnson, February 28, 1947, in the bride’s parent’s home in Edinburg, Texas. Clarice had passed away in 2004.
He is survived by their three children, Susan I. Pope of Tyler, John W. Covington of Spring, and Shirley C. McManus of Pine Mills. Also, grandchildren, Richard M. Crutchfield, Mark A. Crutchfield, both of Tyler; David Pope of Tyler; Gina K. Gross of Orange, TX, Kassandra K. Covington and John T. Covington both of Houston. He had great-grandchildren, Marissa Rodriguez and Jesse Ryan Comacho both of Orange, TX and Kayla Pope of Dallas.
He served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster during World War II. He spent his service at Fort Sam Houston, TX, Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri, and overseas in the Pacific Theatre including Okinawa and Korea.
John was a man of many talents. He was a farmer, soldier, carpenter, and a master mechanic. To his children he was a caring, generous and loving father. We will miss your smile, your humor, quick-wit, but most of all your presence in our lives.
Graveside services will be held at Cathedral in the Pines, Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 10:00 am. Arrangements are under the care of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
