Kuniko Hasegawa Ruby
April 19, 1932 – July 30, 2019
Kuniko Hasegawa Ruby, age 87, passed away on July 30, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. She was born on April 19, 1932 in Tokyo, Japan.
Connie worked with her sister at a family owned coffee shop when she met the love of her life, William Clifton Martin Ruby. They were both World War ll survivors and were the first couple who were granted special permission to get married while in Japan. She enjoyed fishing with her husband on the weekends when they were able and eating what the catch of the day was. She had a family dog named Chibi or “small” in Japanese, which she was very fond of. Connie not only loved Japanese history and reading, but also was so intelligent that she learned Japanese mathematics using an abacus and could solve math problems faster than a calculator.
She was an avid church goer and became a member at Red Springs Baptist in Tyler until the drive was too far, then she attended Fair Park Baptist where she has been a member over twenty years. Her favorite thing to do was crochet. Not only did she crochet things for the children at church she also won awards every year for her talent at the East Texas State Fair. She will be greatly missed by many.
Kuniko is survived by sons William J. (Marcia) and Robert C. Ruby; sister Yrskou Hashino; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
