Robert C. Godfrey
August 8, 1925 – December 2, 2019
Robert Charles Godfrey, age 94, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Monday December 2, 2019. Robert was born August 8, 1925. He passed away as he wished, quietly and peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in Nutley, Robert graduated from Nutley High School in 1943. He went on to graduate from Rutgers University in 1954. He worked as a Computer Systems Analyst for many companies before his retirement. He was drafted right out of high school. Robert served in the Army Engineers in Europe during WWII.
Robert was a true, hands-on family man. An all around good guy and great Dad. A vacation traveling around the country was time well-spent with his family. He enjoyed working on his cars, puttering around the house, taking care of the lawn, helping neighbors, and shoveling snow. Although not a fan of eating chicken, he did like Dr. Pepper, Snickers, ice cream, chocolate, and peanuts. Robert liked animals. This came about from his childhood summers spent on his uncle’s farm in upstate NY. Robert enjoyed visiting his son in St Croix and bobbing around in the aqua blue water of the Caribbean.
His quiet, unassuming manner and teasing nature will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of over 65 years, Gladys. He also leaves behind his pride and joy,his children; daughter Carol of Union and son Robert of St Croix, USVI.
