Irmgard Ruth (Frank) Cummins, our beloved Mutti, was born in Koenigsberg, Germany. As it was for many during the war, Mutti spent years of hardship and displacement in her childhood as well as the tragic loss of her father at a very tender age. A bright student, after completing school she trained as a dental hygienist and went on to be employed as a Colonels secretary, at Hahn AFB. That is where she met her love, Paul Cummins, a soldier in the Air Force. She became a military wife traveling wherever their orders would take them. We were fortunate to have had several tours to Germany where we spent much time with her family, all of whom are also very endearing. They had a genuine love for each other. A trait we learned from Mutti. Some of our fondest memories are from there, with her and them. They always called and kept in touch throughout the years and she missed them very much. She has a sister that just celebrated her 90th Birthday and lives in Berlin; and a brother that is 80 and lives in Simmern. They share in our sorrow at her passing!
Mutti and Dad would go on to raise, provide for, guide and love their four children; Barbara, Michael, Carolyn and Kelly. Regardless of where we lived; Mutti excelled at creating a loving home and safe haven for her family. She loved being a homemaker and always enjoyed decorating. It was not unusual to come home and find many items relocated and changed up. And she was very good at it. She enjoyed bowling, socializing and just being her incredibly sweet and kind self. Friday night card games with good friends was a treat for her. Her holiday events were simple and elegant. She enjoyed hosting and serving others. Making sure they got her very best, and they always did. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor, even throughout a large part of her Alzheimer years. She was our incredible, unforgettable love.
Through the grand gates of heaven, she has joined her husband and her first grandchild, Geli. She leaves behind four children, six grandchildren – and the spouses thereof, and three great grandchildren; all who were blessed to be loved by her. Her gentle and kind soul drew strangers in. You could not help but see her sweetness and fall in love with her pure humility. Full of love and compassion, she always had a smile and gentle greeting for everyone that crossed her path. While we grieve our loss, we celebrate her victory. She is free of her sickness and limitations. Basking in the light of God’s glory and being with all the loved ones that preceded her in death. She is now able to fully shine as the beautiful gem we know that she is. Until we join you, our love, we will always miss you.
