Lawrence was born on May 27, 1941 to Homer and Grayce Wilkin in Springfield, Missouri. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a Green Beret. He retired from the U. S. Army as a SFC. He received numerous awards including the Soldiers Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Yardley; brothers David Wilkin and Kay Wilkin; and brother-in-law, James (Jim) Yardley.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Delores Wilkin; daughters Tonya Tewes and her husband William, Kecia Cowden and Melody Feran; and a son, Derrick Wilkin. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, numerous step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Elder Randy Crawford officiating. SFC Wilkin will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #2 on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11:15 A.M. with military honors. Please sign the guestbook at www.colonialuniversal.com
