Ivan Wing-Kwan Cheng

November 4, 1938September 5, 2019

Ivan Wing-Kwan CHENG was born on Nov 4, 1938, in Chiu Yeung, Guangdong Province, Ivan resided in Hong Kong from 1940 to 1967. He graduated from Pui Ching Middle School, Hong Kong, in 1960, and from Hong Kong Chinese University in 1965. After immigrating to Canada and settling in Vancouver in 1967, Ivan started his travel agency business in 1974, forming a partnership with three of his friends. They named the company the “Love & White Travel Agency.” In 1979, he parted ways with his colleagues and struck out on his own, acquiring and managing Wankow Tour & Travel. Ivan married May Cheung in 1978 in Vancouver, and has 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.

An open-minded individual, Ivan was a person of integrity, honesty and generosity. He was well accomplished in sports in his youth, especially in track and field, and was nicknamed “the oxygen tank” for his stamina in marathon running.

In the travel business, he built a reputation as an expert in China tours, thanks to his exceptional knowledge in China geography and history, scenery and attractions, which was second to none. For this reason, he was deeply popular with tour participants, and his business flourished.

Socializing and exchanging ideas and viewpoints with other travel agents in Vancouver’s Chinatown, he advocated for fair competition and was well liked and respected in his community.

After operating Wankow Tour & Travel for 40 years, Ivan retired in early 2019. Sadly, he passed away on September 5, 2019, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
