Bill died on the first day of Spring after a long stay in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at VGH where life became too much for him to endure. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the only child of Harry and Mabel Strode and was educated at Southeast High School in that city before embarking on a fine arts degree at university. He came to Canada in 1967 and so loved this city that he stayed and made it his home. He is survived by his devastated partner of 46 years, Darrell and by his close friend Kenji. The care he received while in St Paul's and VGH was exemplary and the care givers the most dedicated, compassionate and sympathetic team of doctors, nurses and aides anyone would be lucky enough to have attend them in a critical situation. At Bill's request there will be no funeral or memorial service; instead he would like those who knew him to hug their significant other and to cherish the time spent with them. He left a huge void which is impossible to fill and he is dearly missed.
