I am very sorry to learn of Jeanne's passing and I will miss her.
I got hired in 1997 with the Ventura Police Department and had the privilege to get to know Jeanne. Being a female in law enforcement was a challenge in 1997, let alone in 1969 when Jeanne started. I have always admired and had great respect for the women front runners in law enforcement, like Jeanne. It was because of her bravery, can do attitude and excellence as an investigator that the way was paved for me and other women in law enforcement. She helped to show, we too have a place as officers.
I will always appreciate Jeanne's commitment to the Special Olympics. I am the liaison officer for the Department and organize the Special Olympics Torch Run and Tip A Cop and without hesitation, Jeanne came to every Tip A Cop event we hosted and always graciously donated to our fundraising efforts for Special Olympics.
Jeanne will always remain a very important icon for women in law enforcement, not only here at VPD, but for all of law enforcement.

I felt a special connection with Jeanne (Barbara) because we were both retired peace officers. There was kind of a special knowing, an understanding, professionally and as women in a male-prevalent career field. She was a trailblazer! High fives, Jeanne. I enjoyed being a Red Hat Society sister with you.
