OBITUARY

Mary Ann Jarisch

November 7, 1930June 4, 2019

Mary Ann Jarisch, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. She was born in Luxello, Texas on November 7, 1930. She was instrumental in beginning the YMCA swim program from the ground level and literally taught thousands of people to swim as the YMCA Aquatic Director. She also volunteered as the aquatic director for the Red Cross for 32 years. She was a member of the Victoria Women's Bowling Association since 1953. She loved attending any event her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren participated in. She is survived by her sons, Troy Jarisch (Kim) and Daren Jarisch (Phyllis); daughter-in-law, Martha Jarisch; brother, Richard Lovel; and sister, Peggy Heikkila; grandchildren, Todd Jarisch (Leslee), Kelly Pedone (Anthony), Brandon Jarisch (Cara), Kristen Jarisch , Colton Jarisch (Kelly), Bryan Jarisch (Katy), Jon Jarisch (Kaitlan) and Sterling Jarisch; great grandchildren, Tyler, Kyus, Silas, Lia, Luke, Kambry, Sigr and John Harvey. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Harvey; son, Mark Jarisch; sisters, Mavin, Dorothy and Sis. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity or perform a random act of kindness. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Colonial Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Albert Yankey presiding. I met your mom at the YMCA in the early 70s. I worked there part time while attending Victoria College and I also took a swimming class from her. I also got to know Mark. I think he was a lifeguard there. He and I went to a dance once at Schroeder Hall. I think your mom allowed him to go with me because I was supposed to be the chaperone. He was still in high school. Your mom and I had a special connection and we exchanged Christmas cards until a few years ago. She was a special person.
