She married the late Joe W. Allen on December 30, 1939. He was the love of her life through almost 68 years of marriage. Never a day went by since his death over 5 years ago that she did not miss him and it is a great joy to all of her loved ones that they are now reunited.
She was associated with Victoria Teaching and Office Supply (VTO) for many years. She was wonderful with children and loved teaching Sunday school and being involved in other church activities at Central Church of Christ. She enjoyed being a homemaker after her early retirement.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was generous and always thought of others before herself. Meme thoroughly enjoyed her granddaughters, and, later in life, her great-grandchildren. She was a great listener and loved being around her family. While her health permitted, she attended St. Joseph High School football games where she proudly watched her great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn, cheer. She never missed a birthday celebration for any of her family members. Meme was an excellent cook and took great pleasure in trying out new recipes from her abundant collection of cookbooks. She enjoyed playing dominoes, marbles and cards, and traveling. One of her favorite destinations was Europe, so much so that she enrolled in a German language class at the college. She loved her dogs and looked on them as more kids to spoil. Meme will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and E.L. “Bubba” Crisp Jr. of Victoria; granddaughters and husbands, Darla and Charles Reithmeier and Kendra and James Matthews of Victoria; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Allyson Reithmeier and Lane, Kyle and Kayla Matthews, all of Victoria; and sisters, Beatrice Adams of Belton and Helen Craft of Killeen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, Buster Young.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, with Mr. Randy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
