Robert Webb Obsta made his last run on December 12, 2018, 19 days before his 90th birthday. The youngest of three children born to William Lee and Agnes Caroline Prukop Obsta on December 31, 1928, in Inez, Texas. He graduated in 1947 from Vanderbilt High School later known as Industrial High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and was discharged from the United States Air Force. On June 29, 1950 he was hired by the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. He was promoted from Fireman to Locomotive Engineer in 1960 and retired after 47 years and 1 day on June 30, 1997.
Dacosta Hall was a popular place for people to go socialize and that is where he met the love of his life, Doris Ann Fischer. They were married 65 years on November 7th. Through this union, they were blessed with three daughters, Carol Ann (Robert) Butler, Katherine Kay (Don) Schuelke, and Claire Marie Obsta. His Grandchildren Jessica Caroline (Nathan) Russell, Katherine Elizabeth (Bryan) Gage, Allison Elizabeth (Grayson) Rutelonis, Sarah Alyse (Will) Porter, and Samuel Webb Obsta Butler. Robert enjoyed his Great-grandsons Granger Dale Gage, Webb Edward Gage, Robert Hagen Porter, Mayne Beckett Russell, and one new great-grand due in July, 2019.
Robert was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and a dear believer in his Lord Jesus Christ. Robert enjoyed traveling and through genealogical research reunited with extended families in Germany and Poland. Robert was a life member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and the Victoria Masonic Lodge #40 and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Allee Obsta, and a sister, Beatrice Obsta Quarles. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend and family, Tom Grezesik from Wroclaw, Poland.
In celebration of his life a memorial service will be held on Friday, December 14 at 4 p.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 3401 N. Ben Jordan.
