Biography

Born in Toledo, Ohio on March 30, 1928 to Charles and Jessie Bukowski. She had four siblings, Donald, Victor, David, Dorothy who preceded her in death. She met her husband Melvin at a roller skating rink and married him in 1946. They had two children, Melrita in 1949 and Dennis in 1955. Rita worked for Libby Glass Factory in Toledo from 1957 then moved with the family to West Covina, California in 1959 to begin work at the Libby Glass Plant in the City of Industry, Ca. as a decorator foreman until their retirement in 1987 then moved to Pinon Hills near their daughter. After 50 years of marriage to Melvin he was called home to the Lord in 1996. She met and married Kirk Gilbertson in 1998 until his death in 2011. She had two grandsons, Tristin and Patrick. After Tristin married Jazmyn they had two beautiful great grandchildren, Ashlee and Nicholas whom she adored. Always having dogs in her life from poodles to mutts she settled on a faithful companion Dee Dee, a West Highland terrier whom never left her side until the day Dee Dee became ill. She never fully recovered from losing her. She loved her casino's and would get so excited going to them, especially with her friend Alvena who was 100 years old. She would find just the right outfit to wear always color coordinating and had to be a lucky green color. She enjoyed getting together with a group of ladies playing dominoes once a month. She loved baking and was famous for baking her melt in the mouth "Amish" cookies. She had many friends and will be missed by all.
