Hiram “Dick” L. Overstreet, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2021. He was born in Wayne County, MS on January 3, 1928 and was the third of five children. He was predeceased by his parents, Elias "Bill" and Eleanor Overstreet; a daughter, Lorraine Parrish; brothers, John and Horace; and sisters, Beth and Willie Lee.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Thelma “Sissy” B. Overstreet; and son, John Overstreet (Amy); and daughters Mary Overstreet (Geoff Cook); Laura Padgett (Dennis); Loretta Brown (Mack) and grandchildren, Vega, Mark, Robert, Jim, Adam, Grace, Charlie, and Andy; and great grandchildren; Hannah, Sophia, and Ethan.
After graduating from Clara High School, Dick first went away to college but was just too homesick and returned home. His big sister Willie Lee told him that the Navy in Louisiana was looking to enlist men specifically for medical training, so he joined the Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA becoming a Chief Corpsman and worked with the Seabees and Marines. He retired after 20 years of service and settled in Virginia Beach where he met Sissy and together they opened both Buyrningwood Kennels and Buyrningwood Farm Fence Company, and also constructed the Countryside Shops. He enjoyed gardening, walking, arrowhead hunting, and watching NASCAR races.
Due to Covid 19 a private family service will be held. As Dad requested, his family will celebrate his life and will sing, To God be the Glory. We will miss him very much.
