Martha was my half sister.  I had not seen her since 1973 when our dad was critically ill and passed away May 2, 1973.  Although we did not live close enough to each other, we communicated with cards on special occasions and occasional phone calls. When I no longer received cards from her and then they started being returned, I felt like something had happened to her.  My son did a search and found her obituary.  I am so sad that we didn't get to be with each other.  She was a bright spot and I felt close to her even though we were living miles apart.  I don't know her family.  I remember her having 2 little girls years ago when we visited Spartanburg, S. C.

To  Martha's family,
I am Jane Champion Cotton, Martha's half sister.  I had not seen Martha since 1973 when she came to Opelika, AL., when our dad was in ICU at our hospital.  Dad died the next week.  Martha and I kept up with each other by sending cards for special occasions.  For a year or more I sent cards but did not get one from her, then they started getting returned.  I realized something had happened to her.  My son found this obituary on-line today and forward it to me.  I am so sorry  she passed away so long ago and I didn't know about it.  She favors our dad and my deceased aunt Lillian who lived in Spartanburg.  I have lived in Opelika, AL all my life.  I have 2 grown sons and one grown granddaugter. I remember seeing twin girls when they were small and I was probably around 9 or 10 years old myself. I am 78 years old and my husband is Ralph Cotton who pastors a non-demonational. Marty, to me, was the ultimate energizer bunny.  No matter what happened to her, she just kept on going. Any major setback in her life, and a few weeks later there she was at Young at Heart and at church.  Having not seen her in over 13 years she so impressed me that I always remembered her and prayed for her daily.  Thanks for the light and inspiration you brought to my life and the lives of countless others who have seen Jesus in her. 

Marty was a wonderful friend and neighbor.  We shared a lot of laughs and long talks over the years.   Although I know she is at peace with God now, I will truly miss our times together.

I am so very sorry to hear about Marty. My heart goes out to you all.
