Virginia Beach - Mildred Mae Haislip passed away peacefully March 18, 2018. Born on Jan. 23, 1930 in Greenville, NC, she was the daughter of Johnnie J. Cannon and Mattie Mae Bullock Cannon. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her step-mother, Mary P. Cannon; her sister, Virginia Morris-Ayers; her brother, Harvey L. Cannon; her step-sister, Betty L. Hamrac; and her son, Louis R. Haislip.
Mildred retired from Central Fidelity Bank. She was a faithful member of Bayside Baptist Church where she attended the Faith Sunday School Class. She also participated in the Women's Missionary Union, and she was a member of the church's Kitchen Crew. One of her favorite activities was delivering meals for the Meals On Wheels program. She was an active member of Parents Without Partners where she indulged her love of dancing as advertised by the "Twinkletoes" on her license plate.
Mildred is survived by her step-sisters, Linda Bradford (Don) of Petal, MS and Karen Santucci (David) of New Fairfield, CT; her children, Wallace G. Haislip (Linda) of Johns Creek, GA, Beverly A. Loewecke (Randy) of Simpsonville, SC, Gerald A. Haislip, and Douglas L. Haislip (Cindy) of Virginia Beach, VA; and daughter-in-law, Lynn Haislip of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jennifer Yoast, Ashley Passaglia, Leigh Haislip, Adam Loewecke, Michael Loewecke, Lindsey Taylor, Loren Haislip and Josh Haislip; eleven great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Billy J. Haislip.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Baylake Retirement and Assisted Living Community and Heartland Hospice for their loving care over the last seventeen months of her life.
The family will receive friends at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd. on Wed. March 21, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A celebration of Mildred's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thurs. March 22, 2018 at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Rd. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bayside Baptist Church.
