Navy Veteran, Ronald K. Salyard, 91, passed away on November 16, 2019. He was born on October 31, 1928 to the late Lucille and Clarence Salyard in Portland, OR. His loving wife of 69 years, W. Faye Salyard, preceded him in death.
As a young man who loved the great outdoors, Ron volunteered with the forestry service in Oregon. He then began his career in the US Navy as a Gunner’s Mate and retired after 21 years of honorable service. He went on to work as a civil servant for the US Coast Guard as an AC&R Technician. He spent many days fishing, hunting, and helping his friends. His most fulfilling job was caring for his wife and two daughters. The love for his family, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren was immense.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Brenda Bartlett (Jim); and Debbie Grazel (Chris); grandchildren Chris Bartlett (Autumn), Jayson Grazel (Rebecca), Beverly Bartlett Becker (Mark), Carissa Grazel and Mia Grazel; great grandchildren Emerson, Ellie, James, Grayson, Jasper, Beckett and Clair Noel; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior at Bayside Church of Christ, 5025 Shell Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. A burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Medi Home Health, the staff of Our Lady of Prepetual Help, and the nurses and team of doctors at Sentera Leigh Hospital for their compassionate care. To Sheila’s place, our utmost thanks for surrounding us with love and support while providing the most tender care for dad in his last days. Our family and friends have walked many beautiful days with both Ron and Faye and we are beyond grateful.
