Shirley F. Mickens, affectionately loved by everyone, passed away on May 8, 2021. Though born in Maryland, she was a ‘native New Yorker’. After her retirement, she and her now deceased spouse ‘Skip’ moved to Virginia Beach. She lived here for 28 years.
Shirley leaves to cherish her son, Gary Williams and wife Glendora of Suffolk, Virginia; her daughter, Deborah LeMon of Ellicott City, Maryland; 3 grandchildren, Shaun Corriea, Jacquette LeMon, and Deon Williams; and 5 great grandchildren.
Shirley was fiercely independent and was driving at age 89 up until she drove the car into the garage until it was almost “parked” in the bathtub. Shirley loved all people and was an excellent listener. She gave great advice to everyone. The simple things made her happy and laugh. She loved music, cooking, traveling, and watching her favorite TV show ‘Dancing with The Stars’. We knew not to call her at 7 PM on Saturdays while she was getting her religious inspirations from Dr. Charles Stanley on the In Touch Ministries TV show.
Shirley will be sorely missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home.
