Dolores Christine Mayo Zelechoski was born in Michigan on August 7, 1928. At the age of 89, she died on July 21, 2018. On November 8, 1952 she married Stanley Francis Zelechoski, USN, who preceded her in death in 2010. Seven children followed and were raised in their Chula Vista, California home. Dolores graduated from Immaculate Heart College (Los Angeles, California) in 1947 with a Bachelors in Spanish and Education. She went on to teach elementary students at various schools including St. Charles Catholic School and Oneonta Elementary, both in Imperial Beach, California. She did Post-graduate work in Elementary School Education, served as President of the local California Teachers Association in the mid-1970s, and was a Reading Specialist for the South Bay Union School District, all the while raising her children and supporting her husband’s military career which included the Vietnam War and numerous other deployments. Her faith in God and Christ’s redemption defined her to the end. She was a life-long member of St. Pius X Catholic parish (Chula Vista, California) holding many roles including Director of RCIA instruction, Altar and Rosary Society, Choir and numerous other roles throughout the years. In 2012, following the death of her husband, she moved to Southern Maryland and the care of her son. She quickly became an active member of Jesus the Divine Word Catholic parish. In her final few years she was a resident of Asbury Solomon’s Retirement Community and nearby Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic parish. She is survived by her seven children, Philip, Mary-Rose, Peter, Patrick, Catherine, Anne-Marie and Paul, and by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Internment is in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery with her husband of 57 years.

Yes, Lord, we believe That You are the Christ, The Son of God Who has come Into the world. And I will raise you up, And I will raise you up, And I will raise you up on the last day.

May your faith through His grace carry you on angels’ wings into His open arms. Until we see you again, we love you Mom.
