Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, the petite green eyed redhead, her mother one of the nation’s first woman pharmacists, always knew her life would be elsewhere. Nevertheless she attended Oklahoma State, was Chi Omega, Mortar Board and graduated with honors.
Then she received a letter from her mother.
It invited her to leave her job at Fort Sill, fly to Guam where her father ran the USO and marry a young lieutenant named George Wentz (Rob). He had seen her portrait.
She didn’t agree to the latter part but to the adventurous prop plane flight to exotic Guam, stopping in Hawaii along the way.
Flo and Rob married six months later and honeymooned in the Philippines. They lived in Annapolis and Severna Park from 1959 until 2017 when Rob was advised by hospital MDs that Flo would not survive in their facility environment.
Flo served as President of the Severn Town Club, Chairman of the Red Stocking Follies, President of the Severna Park Republican Club and as an active member of Panhellenic.
She enjoyed the Annapolis Yacht Club and Chesapeake Sailing Club with Rob and many friends.
The adventures continued. They visited Tunisia, traveled by car througb Europe and on a cruise ship to Alaska. They sailed with friends through the canals of Sweden, in the Bahamas, and on the Chesapeake Bay in their MorningStar. They learned to ski
in their 50’s and Flo won the championship for her age group in Killington, Vermont. She was an avid and weekly bridge player. They partied with good friends of the Dirty Dozen and enjoyed visits to Ocean City. They camped in the Appalachian Mountains, Michigan and Canada and on beaches of South Carolina, Florida and Maryland.
And at the age of 88 Rob escaped them from Ginger Cove and moved them to Florida. They married and died under palm trees.
Flo received her masters in business from Catholic University and taught at Anne Arundel County schools for over 25 years, the majority as head of the Northeast High School business dapartment.
She is survived by sons David Northrop Wentz and George Robinson Wentz Jr and daughter Karen Jane Chapman, seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. None reside in Maryland.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on January 21 at St Pauls Piney Episcopal Church, Waldorf. It can be viewed live via a link on the Huntt Funeral Home Facebook page.
