Nancy Leigh Croushorn passed peacefully at her home from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on June 28, 2018. Her greatest desire was to watch her niece, Emma, walk across the stage as she graduates from High Point University. Although cancer and the complications of fighting it for the past 3+ years robbed her of this, it was seen by all those who visited or volunteered as caregivers that it was obvious it did not rob her of the strength of her personality, character and friends.
She was born on April 23, 1965 and was a life-long resident of Waynesboro, VA having never wished to leave the Blue Ridge Mountains which she loved. She was a daughter of the late Carl Alexander Croushorn and Emma "Bonnie" Hughes Croushorn. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Molly and Randy Hodge and niece, Emma Elisabeth Hodge. Other significant survivors include Nicholas Spino, and Nancy’s fur babies, Gracie and Ebony. Nancy graduated from Waynesboro High School and Blue Ridge Community College. Following graduation, she worked for Dr. Kenneth Bowman, Jefferson National Bank and lastly C. J. Wood Rentals. She was employed at C.J. Wood Rentals for the past 21+ years where she worked as a property manager. She was dedicated and devoted to the tenants, always going above and beyond for everyone.
Nancy was an avid UNC Tar Heels fan. Her fondest memories were time spent with children and youth coaching softball, basketball and soccer with leagues in the Stuarts Draft and Waynesboro area. She was a very active member of Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church where she was involved with the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school, served as a youth leader, sang in the choir and took the lead role in organizing Christmas pageants, Vacation Bible School and church softball teams. In addition to her roles at the church, she was a member of Casa de Amistad at Basic United Methodist Church, the UMCOR Mission Team to Puerto Rico and the Spring Holler Cloggers. Those who knew Nancy knew she was very proud of her 1970 Volkswagen Bug and was an avid Coca-Cola collector.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janet Knott officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Randy Hodge, Nick Spino, Franklin Woodson, Gary Wright, Larry Wood, Marvin Painter and Lance Buckley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bonita Woodson, Polly Broyles, Tobi Broyles, Beverly Shifflett, Julie Berry, Karen Wright, Kaye Foster, Cheryl Summers, children of the Noah’s Ark class at Glovier United Methodist Church and the YMCA Girls’ Basketball team.
