Mr. Claytor was born in Crimora, Virginia to the late Everett Leon Claytor and Bertha Arlene (Craig) Claytor on January 17, 1937.
He married the former Christine Jewel Coffey on May 1, 1964 in Lyndhurst. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Mize Supply for 25 years where he lastly served as warehouse manager. He was a U.S. Veteran having served his country honorably with the Navy. Sonny greatly enjoyed gardening, wood working, butchering and listening to bluegrass music with all of his friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Claytor is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Claytor; brothers, Donnie, Bobby and Wayne Claytor.
He is survived by daughters, Debbie Painter and husband, Danny of Stuarts Draft, Karen “Pinky” Claytor and partner, Donna Harrigan of Greenville; step-son, Dale Lowe of Staunton; grandchildren, Stoney Myerhoffer of Missouri, Christy Painter of Waynesboro, Israel Lowe of Waynesboro; and one great-grandchild, Stiles Taylor. He also leaves behind his best friend, whom he considered a son, Philip Roadcap and wife, Polly; and special friends Pat and Buck Miller.
Following cremation, a graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Lyndhurst United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2835 Lyndhurst Rd., Lyndhurst with Tom Gibson officiating.
There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
