Waynesville-Alice Irene Goodson, 85 passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. Irene was born in Haywood County on March 31, 1934, to the late George and Merle McElroy Shuler. She was a great cook who loved working in the yard and in her garden. Most of all, Irene will be remembered for the love she had for her dear family.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by, her son, Ricky Dean Goodson; and a sister, Marietta Shuler Clinton.

Irene is survived by her husband of 67 wonderful years, Charles Goodson; daughters, Barbara Stiles (Doug), Patricia Ensley, and Cynthia G. Ramsey (Gary); sister, Shirley Shuler Gates; 13 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; and her two special dogs, Bity and Bo whom she pampered greatly.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 pm prior to the service at Garrett Funerals and Cremations.
