Lou was born on May 12, 1946 in East Alton, Illinois. He attended University of Illinois and in September 1968, after college, he married his beloved wife Judy and entered the Air Force. Lou’s early adult life was that of a military officer. As a result, he and his family moved numerous times to many memorable places throughout the United States. He concluded his Air Force career as a Lt. Colonel in 1988 at the NASA Johnson Space Center after 20 years of service to his country. After retirement, Lou continued to support the space program through his work at several local NASA support contractors. In 1996, Lou unexpectedly lost his wife Judy. Unfortunately Judy didn’t have the opportunity that Lou did to see their daughters flourish in their careers nor meet her three wonderful grandsons. In 2007 Lou began a new chapter in his life when he married LuAnne Glover. Lou and LuAnne loved to spend time with friends and family and traveled extensively both in the US and overseas. This active lifestyle kept Lou alive at a time when he could have just faded away. Lou passed away on October 15, 2018 in the loving care of his family.
Lou will be deeply missed by his wife, LuAnne Jones, daughter Jessica Miller and husband Michael, their children, Logan, Cameron and Dawson Miller; and daughter, Deborah Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Jones; father, Hale C. Jones; mother, Venita Henry Jones; sister, Shirley Fife and brother-in-law, Jay Fife.
Lou’s greatest pride and joy was his family. Over the years he thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in the Friendswood Mighty Mustang Band program. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Friendswood Mighty Mustang Band, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
