Carolyn S. Bilton passed away on March 2 at her home in Wellfleet. Carolyn moved to Wellfleet full-time in 2012 after having visited the town, Brewster (where family lived for 20 years), and the Cape regularly for over 45 years. She was born, lived and worked in New Jersey, raising her family in Aberdeen Township before moving to Ocean Township.
A registered nurse, Carolyn spent much of her career at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, NJ. She was awarded Nurse of the Year in 2000 for creating Comfort and Caring Day, which made Reiki, Reflexology, and massage available on a weekly basis to caregivers in the hospital. She also served five years as Director of Complementary Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ, bringing complementary and alternative healing therapies to patients.
Carolyn earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University in 1966 and a Master’s Degree as a Holistic Nurse Practitioner from New York University in 2003. Carolyn is survived by her husband Robert Cohen of Wellfleet, sons Michael Bilton of California and Peter Bilton of New Jersey, a brother William Sywak of California, and her two grandsons John and Henry.

A visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street in Wellfleet, on Friday, March 7 from 11am to noon, beginning at noon, family and friends will have a moment to speak about Carolyn. Burial to follow at 1pm in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wellfleet. A memorial and remembrance service will be held in New Jersey at a later date.
