We can't put into words the sadness we feel on just now learning of Steven's passing.  Although we've lost touch for far too long, our memories of you and Steven are a strong and endearing part of our lives. Steven's smile simply lit up any room he was in, and we trust that his light continues to linger and brighten your days even now. More than a month has passed since we spoke after the passing of Steve.  He would be so proud, but not surprised, at how strong and positive you are about the 'now' of your life.

As time passes so many of the memories of Steve are surfacing back from our days at TWA, United, NYC/CT and Ptown. Just today I was thinking of the Sunday afternoon that Steve and I agreed to meet after working a flight to San Francisco. Steve had arranged that we gather at 'The Eagle' to see our friend, Warren, who was terminally ill and very much in need of some time out. It was all so strange to be with our friend who looked so ill in the middle of this rowdy bar.
We were all so pleased with the day. Warren died shortly after that day with the knowledge that friends cared. Thanks to Steve for 'doing the right thing' and making that special day. That's just the kind of guy that Steve was.

Now it's time to say how much we care for our friend, Steve and how gladly we will carry on with his spirit.

I’m very sorry to be late on this but it’s simply been surreal and I couldn’t approach this until now. 

My acquaintance with Steve was largely that of being a fellow member of the Anchorage on the Bay Board. 
Although I considered him a friend we didn’t socialize.  Yet we became close, working side by side on many anchorage projects the last few years.  

 Steve was superb in his creations, his tireless work, and his vast skills and abilities. 
No one did more for the Anchorage or worked harder than Steve. Just ask me, I was there. 
As Board President he excelled and frankly worked too hard. Yet we all know Steve’s work ethnic. 
Fellow owners in Anchorage on the Bay have a debt to Steve that can and will never be repaid. He was simply outstanding! 
A fine man as evidenced by all the many remarks on this site by so many, I humbly add my own. 
Steve will forever be missed and remembered by me, and many more. 
You were the absolute best Steve! We will however difficult carry on because that’s what you would expect of us. 
May you find peace.

Steve - sorry to hear of your untimely passing.   You will miss the 5Oth reunion of our high school class in West Bend, Wisconsin and many there will miss you.  I am to offer a brief  encomium for all of our deceased classmates, now 62 from our class of 422.  A commemorative stone will be placed in the memorial labyrinth in Regner Park mentioning them as a group; the least that can be done.   More personally, I wanted to apologize for thinking you odd in 2nd grade at Holy Angels grade school as you preferred to play with Kathy Wollner as opposed to the boys during recess.  Life has a way of sorting things out.  Our son Mike came out as a 17 year old and spent some time volunteering with the Human Rights campaign while we lived in Washington, D.C. some twenty years ago now.   He works as a steward for Southwest Air now, a job I recall you did for a bit. He, and his siblings have been a great comfort to both his Mother Anne and me.  Just saying.  You're in our prayers.

Of course I was shocked to hear of Steve’s passing.  He was so vibrant and energetic it was, at times, exhausting just watching him go, go, go.  I’m sure by now he’s reorganized all the heavenly bodies, added new point of sale items at the pearly gates, and given St. Peter tips on how to work with the incoming customers.
He was a true gentleman and genuinely kind person.  Although I’d sort of loss touch since you and Steve relocated from Westport to the Cape, whenever I was in Ptown and ran into him (or you) on the street it was as if no time had passed at all.  My heartfelt condolences go out to you.

Stu, words cannot express the sadness we feel ,but, as you said, we will remember Steve with happiness.  Remember when you two first got Lucca.. running all through the beach grass looking like a little ball of fur . You two wonderfully showing him to us.. He’s just about the only dog I’m not afraid of.   
We will remember Steve gardening .. he loved that garden area... we will also remember his kindness and patience helping us pick out prints for our new home. We must’ve driven him crazy that day!! But he never showed it just helped us !! Our prayers are with you.. 

Dearest Stu, we are so deeply saddened and are holding you in our hearts.  I cherish all of the memories of times spent with you both back in Westport and in Ptown.    

From the moment I met him, Steve was always a source of inspiration to me.  He and I had many a  discussion about entrepreneurship and real estate...two passions we both shared.  I always admired his passion for business, his resourcefulness and his energy.  I remember when he was working on the re-boot of Big Daddy's -- how diligent he was at optimizing all of the details of that business.  His dedication was remarkable.  He took such pride in everything he did and he excelled at everything he put his mind to.  

And then, there were all the fun times we shared at dinner parties at your house over a mean martini and a wonderful meal, at tea dance or late night dancing at the A-house...his love for life was contagious and I loved being in his presence.  

I think about him every day now and I only wish we had the chance to spend more time with you both in Fort Lauderdale.

44 years ago, when I was 13, Steve was my 8th grade teacher - and my first crush.  I thought the sun rose and set on him.  He was very well aware of my infatuation with him, and he treated me so very kindly and gently, never hurting my delicate feelings all while probably being embarrassed and uncomfortable with other teachers and students who were aware of the situation.  He could have transferred me to another classroom, but he did not.  One day he came to school with stitches and bandages everywhere.  I was mortified.  He assured me that he was OK.  I insisted that he let me help him in some way.  I took tests home to grade.  I baked him brownies every week and brought them to him in a shoe box.  He was so gracious in receiving them.  When it was time for me to go to high school, I thought the world was going to end because I had to "leave" him.  I still remember to this day the "talk" we had after school in the back of the classroom about "moving on."  He was so special and gentle and respectful of my feelings, knowing that he was my "first love."  And he always will be.  I am heartbroken and devastated that he is no longer part of our world - but he will always be part of my life and will continue to live on in my heart.  Thank you Steve for making me feel so special at such a delicate age when love was something new to me.  You were the perfect choice for a "first love."  I will always love you.  And miss you.  Rest well my special friend.

We have all lost a wonderful  and kind person! Steve was  always there with a smile and a laugh.I will miss dancing at Hunters with him and being his friend and neighbor both in P town and Ft Lauderdale. I’m going to miss you buddy!❤️

I remember throwing one of my champagne and cake parties years ago in Westport CT and Stu and Steve came for the first time-I strongly remember after meeting and being with them that New Light and Energy and Joy was added to our group and that’s the way it’s been for all these years!

Many years ago we were on a long walk on North Truro beach and saw a handsome man on a ladder painting shutters.  We waved hello and we started to chat and before we knew it Steve introduced himself and gave us a tour of the cottage, creating a bond and respect that led to the privilege of knowing him and Stu, calling that cottage “home” each September for many years.

One definition of special friends are those you don't see for months, possibly years, and when you get together again it feels as though no time has passed.  Steve and Stu are those kind of friends. From Westport to Provincetown and Truro, we have  shared many happy and wonderful times together. There was always fun, always laughter, always food and drink (they can cook) and always real discussions about real life. Over the years we have admired and been in awe of Steve and Stu's personal and professional successes and their ability to reinvent themselves. Our two friends have always been role models  and examples of how to move through the world and make a positive impact. Steve we will miss you, and Stu we will hold you closer. Love.

I am so sad to hear of Steve’s passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Steve, Stu and Luca last summer and being their next door neighbor for 2weeks in Truro. I instantly liked all three and we formed a bond over our mutual love for animals especially dogs. We had daily chats that always ended in lots of cuddles with Luca. I was so looking forward to spending more time this September with you guys.

I write this to you directly because I do believe that you are watching, listening, guiding and loving us now from a place we can only hope and aspire to reach. 

 I keep replaying in my mind and heart all of the wonderful moments shared over the past nearly 30 years.  From our shared love of mothers who have lived to their 90s, dogs come and gone, days on the boat and beach, evenings dancing...and quiet mornings on the Cape or Florida - just chatting.  You were a pro at all things Italian - but I remember your secret love for France (shhh...your secret is safe with me!)  Your sage advice about things and acceptance for just how things will be.  You and Stu were, and remain to be, role models for me in so many ways.

I, like so many others, are blessed to have had you in my life and cherish the day we meet again.

I have known Steven and Stu for 43 years with our special job and journeys at TWA. This loss has left me almost speechless... because when you said one name you always included the other ❤️
Stu and Steve....professional , class, a cut above...friendship whether visiting them up in Vermont probably one of their first real estate purchases... thru the many years I couldn’t keep up with their many  incredibly adventures ...I have never missed sending a Christmas Card but have to admit there were many changes of address.

We are so profoundly saddened by the loss of our dear friend Steve.  We have been blessed with over 30 years of friendship with Steve and Stu. While living on opposite coasts made getting together less frequent than we would have liked, when we did get together, it felt as if only days had passed.   

We will always cherish the many wonderful time we spent together—cruises in the Caribbean, our adventure in Tahiti, the beautiful home we rented in Mexico and many shared birthday celebrations.

When Steve walked into the room, it came alive with his magnificent laugh and dazzling smile.   He loved his friends and his friends loved him back.   He brought such joy to our lives and to many others.   If there is any lesson to be learned, it is that while gone from this earth, he will always fill a special place in our hearts.

I have little more to say than what my cousin Lizzie did so beautifully. Steve was a part of our family: always deliberate, always present, “gifter” of his beloved partner Stuart who has also been part of the family now for 40 years. I just spoke with Steve  on 6/22/19 about aging, about what is important, about aging bodies and relationships. We are all blessed to have known him. 

Of course we are still in shock to read this devastating news.
Only recently we comforted each other after the passing of our dear mothers who were contemporaries. Now dearest Steve you may rest in her arms for eternity.
From our early days at the Barefoot Boy, the parties, the laughter,through your being there for me at my dads passing, you are a part of my life.. and I am a better man for it.

Lauderdale for your wedding and are blessed that we were able to spend some time with you in Phoenix a couple of months ago. Steve (and Stu) have been a  part of my life for so long and yet now so suddenly gone, I  find myself saying over and over in my mind,  “Wait, Steve! it wasn’t enough time!”  I can still hear his laugh which everyone agrees is the best in the history of the world! From Westport days to rides on the back of your motorcycle in Quogue, travels together in St. John, great dinners with great friends, celebrations and losses, no matter where you were, you both remained a constant in my life.  As I have said “It was always Stu and Steve, and it always will be” .  

I just asked Alexa to play 70's disco music. Let's do this. My Mom met her first gay male friend in the early 1970's. His friends became her friends, and when the inevitable break-up would occur, she remained friends with both parties....and their new partners were welcomed. You see where this is going, right?  By the mid70's my home was a constant mash-up of The Castro meets Fire Island meets T-Dance at The Boatslip. And I loved every minute of it. I was 14. The one friend who stood out from the crowd, who spent hour upon hour with her/us was Steven Hirschboeck. He loved my Mom, and she him. In Dec 1978, when we picked my brother up at JFK from a college semester abroad, we made a quick stop at Kew Gardens to visit Steve. Hmm, seems like there might be a new love interest in Steve's life.  By June '79 when my Mom threw me a HS grad party and Steve brought a young, shiny, gorgeous, sweet, Stu we knew it was going to be "Steven & Stuart" for all of time. And it was. They became our family. They catered to my elderly Grandma, they cheered the milestones that my brother and I achieved as we grew, they were there at every family holiday, they welcomed my son with joy upon his birth 24 years ago, they gave my Mother countless hours of love and companionship. They mourned with us upon her death in 1999. After a semi- child-parent/uncle relationship with Steve, which was natural due to his friendship with my Mother, we transitioned into a peer relationship. What a joy! To know him as the thoughtful, curious, smart, hard-working man that he was became our new normal. Stuart brought out the best in him. And vice versa. He reinvented himself, professionally, many times in his life; with ease. I looked up to him in that respect. Steven had the BEST laugh. I have been hearing it resonate in my head since Tuesday morning. Stu, you were part of a magical partnership. I love you. I miss Steve. He was a fine man. **pouring a martini in honor** 

We have lost one of our very best friends. From our first meeting more than thirty years ago we somehow knew Steve and Stu would be life-long pals. We have so many fond memories of our countless get-togethers, wonderful vacations, and endless laughs.  This is such a tragic loss for all of us who were fortunate enough to know this exceptional man. We will never forget him.

Our family was blessed to have Steve in it.  He always had a smile and had an infectious laugh that I can still hear in my head.  He always asked me about life and how everyone was doing and showed a genuine interest  in my answers. Stu..Eddie and I are so horribly saddened by Steve's passing. All of our great chats at the cottage about  living, working, loving and loss and yet  still we are never prepared to lose a loved one. We are so heartbroken for you Stu and struggle for words. When we were college students at UWWC, Steve helped me with my car when it broke down part-way between Cedarburg and West Bend on finals day. He was my introduction to the Hirschboeck family, and it's been a long association since then.
