Irene Hensing TanCreti of West Des Moines, 90, died Thursday (August 2, 2018) at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. She was the wife of the late Alfred TanCreti who passed away in August 2002. Born in 1927 in Le Mars, Iowa to Emmett and Bessie (Christensen) Hensing, she lived in Le Mars and Ames, Iowa; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Omaha, Nebraska before marrying Alfred and moving to Des Moines in 1952. A graduate of Duchesne Academy College of Nursing in Omaha, she worked for Mercy Medical Center for more than thirty years, much of it in the position of Nursing House Supervisor. As a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, she was very involved in church activities including the Regina Guild, the Parish Council where she served as President, and in various other capacities related to fundraising and promotion of the parish and school. The mother of six children, she is survived by Steven TanCreti of Gardner, Kansas; David TanCreti and his wife Cheryl of Des Moines; Loretta Uhl and her husband Larry of Akron, Ohio; Irene Serena and her husband Brian Van Roekel of Des Moines; and Roger TanCreti and his wife Alicia of Houston, Texas. A son, Charles TanCreti, preceded her in 1975. She was also preceded by her brother Donald Hensing and her sister Helen Wilkinson. She leaves five grandchildren; Chelsea Uhl (Loretta and Larry), Angelo TanCreti (David and Cheryl), and James, Leo and Sophie TanCreti (Roger and Alicia). She also leaves many nieces and nephews across the U.S. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 6 at Sacred Heart Church, 1627 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with funeral services commencing immediately thereafter at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines.

Biography

Irene Hensing TanCreti, 90, died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. She was the wife of the late Alfred TanCreti who passed away in August 2002. Irene was born in 1927 in Le Mars, IA to Emmett and Bessie (Christensen) Hensing, she lived in Le Mars and Ames, IA, Knoxville, TN, and Omaha, NE before marrying Alfred and moving to Des Moines in 1952. A graduate of Duchesne Academy College of Nursing in Omaha, she worked for Mercy Medical Center for more than thirty years, much of it in the position of Nursing House Supervisor.

Irene was preceded in death by a son, Charles TanCreti in 1975; brother, Donald Hensing; and sister, Helen Wilkinson.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 until service time at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
