Kirstie Kae Stifel, 55, passed away peacefully in her home on January 8, 2021 in Urbandale, IA surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life will be held at McLaren’s Chapel on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 2 to 4 P.M. Due to COVID, masks are required.

Kirstie was born to John and Karen (Larkin) Brooks on September 23, 1965 in Ames, IA. She will be most remembered by her love of being a mother, and creating memories with her children, family, and friends. Kirstie was an avid Iowa State fan, and loved to spend her fall Saturdays in Ames, Iowa. Animals were a big part of her life, and going on walks with her dog, Zeus, was a favorite activity. She had a strong Christian faith, and loved attending Lutheran Church of Hope in WDM. Lastly, cardinals were very significant to her, so please know that when you see a cardinal out, this is Kirstie’s way of saying hello.

Kirstie is preceded in death by her father, John Brooks, Grandpa and Grandma Brooks, Grandpa and Grandma Larkin, Uncle Donnie Larkin, and Uncle Charles Larkin. We find peace and comfort knowing that there was a beautiful reunion when Kirstie met the gates of heaven.

Kirstie is survived by her mother, Karen Brooks; children, Madison Stifel, Morgan (Matt) Friend, Coleson (Megan) Stifel; her brother Michael (Sara) Brooks and her niece Reagan; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kirstie’s hospice nurse, Terry, for going above and beyond caring for Kirstie during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Urbandale Food Pantry or AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport.

My continuous memory of Kirstie is her kindness to all. She didn't have to be your best friend for her to make you feel like you were! Her smile was incandescent and she will be missed by all of us. She was a kind soul and all of us would be better to try to imitate her more often. Prayers for all of you.

Kirstie and I worked together at IDEC. I think we had a friend connection from the beginning. She was one of the most beautiful, caring, and loving souls I have ever encountered in this life. One of our connections was Iowa State fanhood! I am truly heart broken at her passing! May you soar with the angels and your other loved ones in heaven. So much love and support to kids and families! My words can never effectively offer condolences I extend to you.

I'm SO SORRY to hear of your loss. I worked with Kirstie at The Diabetes Research Center. She was my employee for a short period of time before she promoted. I enjoyed working with Kirstie and she was a very special person. My sincere condolences.

My heart goes out to Madison, Morgan, Coleson, Mike and your families. I will always remember Kirs and her great adoration for her kids and her love of having fun with friends and family (she got that straight from her dad!). You will remain in my prayers in the days ahead. I’m certain John was in heaven welcoming Kirs with wide-open arms, in a crazy hat with a drink in his hand, and brought her straight to the party section in heaven.

Kirstie had a spirit within her of fierce loyalty. Her brother Mike loved to tease her and kid her, but Kirs was always his loyal friend and sister. Kirs also loved her mom and dad. Her dad, John, was still daddy to her. Kirs loved and admired him. I feel great sadness and know that all that knew her are feeling it too.

Kirstie loved her family so, so very much. I remember going to visit her soon after Maddie was born and how happy and proud she was to be her mom. I saw that pride multiply as Morgan and Coleson came along, and again as she welcomed her niece Reagan. Her love for and loyalty to her family is inspiring. We send our deepest condolences to all who grieve for Kirs.
