Charles Timothy Donovan Jr.

Charles Timothy Donovan, Jr., 84, of Harwich, MA passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. Charlie was originally from Dorchester, MA (OFD), the son of the late Charles Timothy and Nora (Sullivan) Donovan. He was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, UMass Amherst and obtained his master’s degree from Salem State University. He was a proud US Navy Korean War veteran.

Charlie was a long-time resident of Andover where he was a teacher with Andover Public Schools educating 5th and 6th graders for 35 years before retiring in 1998. Charlie shared his life with his beloved late wife, Judith Ann (Scannell), who died in 2010.

He leaves behind his daughter Kathleen and her husband Daniel Baxter of Reading, Massachusetts; son William and his wife Lori of Plymouth, Massachusetts, son Steven and his wife Stacey of Westford, Massachusetts, and eight grandchildern; Siobhan and Aislinn Baxter; Ryan, Erin, Kayla and Casey Donovan; and Kendall and Jack Donovan. He is survived by his brothers, Leo and his wife Kathleen Donovan of Quincy, Massachusetts and Joseph and his wife Susan Donovan of Squantum, Massachusetts; along with many wonderful nieces and nephews. Charlie is also predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary and George Graw, Victor and Ann Carlstrom and Edward and Amy Scannell.

Charlie and his family spent many happy days summering on the Cape, camping in the tent trailer and then in the home they shared. Soon after his retirement, he and Judy became permanent Harwich residents. Charlie loved the Cape where he honeymooned with Judy, drove on the dunes of Race Point, and had countless hours of boating and fishing. He was an avid sportsman, playing hockey in college and later coaching his sons. He took great pleasure attending all of his grandchildren's, grandnieces and grandnephews sporting and dancing events.

Charlie lived a wonderful 84 years of life, bringing joy and laughs to those who met and knew him. The world is emptier today, but a better place for those us who loved him and he loved.

Visiting hours will take place Monday, August 12th 4-8 p.m. at Doane, Beal & Ames, 260 Main St. (Route 28), W. Harwich, MA 02701. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13th at Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St. (Route 28), in W. Harwich. Charlie will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Judith in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne where he will be honored for his service.
