Wallace M. Raneo, Sr
Wallace “Wally” Manuel Raneo, Sr. was born in Harwich on November 4, 1921 to Balbina and Antone Raneo. He died at 10:40PM on April 24, 2014.
Wally was married to Eugenia Raneo who predeceased him in 1997. He later married Faustina “Tina” Roderick in 1999.
Wally attended Harwich High School. He joined the Army and served in World War II as a Medical Tech serving with the 26th Field Hospital and received the Medal for Service in Russia and Iran given by the Prime Minister of Iran.
Wally played semi pro baseball with the New Britan Machines in Connecticut. He also played on the Cape Cod League as a catcher from 1946 to 1959 and has been a devoted fan since 1959, as well as a Red Sox fan. His heart has always been with the patriots and has never missed a home game from 1962 – 2010.
Wally designed and built homes. He was a member of the Waterways Committee that built Saquatucket Harbor and donated the flagpole base to the town. He was on the Committee for Medi Center Five and helped design and build the facility; he was a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser; Life time member of the Knights of Columbus; Member of the Cape Cod Builders Association; Past President of Kiwanis and has been a member for 48 years, and lifetime member of the VFW.
Wally was a devoted husband, father and friend, who loved to socialize. He loved music, dancing and dining out with his wife Tina. He also loved children and would find joy in playing and joking with his grandchildren no matter what their age.
Wally Leaves behind his Wife of 14 years Faustina Raneo, his children: Margo and husband Willie Bellamy of Harwich, Toni Raneo (Predeceased), Wendy Espanet of Belligham, Wallace M. Raneo, Jr and wife Elsie of Harwich, step daughters Joane Roderick of Dennis Port, Jill Polselli and Husband Cliff of West Yarmouth, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
Visitation hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., W. Harwich. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Holy Trinity Church, 426 Main St., W. Harwich. Burial will follow in Island Pond Cemetery.
