Milovanovic, Jeanne Patricia (December 7, 1930 - August 21, 2019)

After a period of illness, Jeanne passed away in Markham-Stouffville Hospital. During her stay, she was surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife to Dusan (d. 1994), and devoted mother to sons Peter (Susan), Nicholas (Carol) and David (Cinda), Jeanne was the dear grandmother of Nikki, Steven, Alicia, Heather and Andrew, and great-grandmother to Dominick.

Jeanne had a long and distinguished career in education in roles ranging from classroom teacher to Superintendent for the Scarborough Board of Education. She was the President of the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario and the first President of the Canadian Institute for Reading Recovery - an initiative she helped to bring to Canada.

Jeanne is remembered fondly by friends and colleagues around the world for her gregarious and outgoing personality, as well as for her extraordinary contributions to the advancement of children’s early literacy and of women’s rights. She remained dedicated to helping others through charitable causes until her last days, and her absence will be felt by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her name - either to the Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery or to the Markham-Stouffville Hospital Foundation.

Visitation for Jeanne will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM and from 7 to 9 PM and also Wednesday, August 28th at 10 AM at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 4115 Lawrence Ave East, West Hill, ON. A funeral service for Jeanne will occur Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 11 AM at Giffen-Mack. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will take place at the Scarborough Golf Club following the burial service at Resthaven.

Pat and I were saddened to hear about Jeanne's passing and wish to express our sincere sympathy to the members of the family. It was my honor and privilege to serve with Jeanne on the senior leadership team at the Scarborough Board of Education. During her distinguished career in education she received many honors both provincially and nationally. Jeanne was greatly respected for her many contributions but especially her advocacy for early literacy. She was beloved by her many friends and colleagues in the public school system. May Jeanne rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon her.
Earl Campbell, Former Director of Education, Scarborough

My sincere sympathy to Jeanne's sons and their families. Jeanne very kindly discussed the Reading Recovery Program when she knew about my son's enrolment in the program. Our discussion took place over doing Slava dishes at her home off Birchmount Road. Jeanne very kindly followed up with me after that initial discussion in the days that followed. I have always been grateful for her thoughts and direction. I know she will be dearly missed by her family and so many.

Sincerely
Mary Pat

She was such a strong and powerful person, entrenched in the value of family. That's the memory of her that I will treasure most. She'll be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
