It’s with great sadness that. I report the passing of a truly dedicated West Islip community resident.Aronald Merkitch was one of FDNYs Bravest Retiring out of a FDNY Rescue 4 Company prior to that he served as a Korean Veteran.Arnold was one of those people driven by passion and purpose never wavering in defeat always searching for a cause worthy of remembrance.I worked on many a project with Arnold in our community from make a Soldier Smile,Make a Child Smile.Safe Halloween ..Spooky walks pumpkin carving contests.I remember how hard he worked on the creation of Anthony Casamento Park.Another of our community hero’s.Another pleasure was working with..Arnie On the West Islip Chamber of Commerce which was the organization which offered all of its backing to accomplish our great Memorials and Community fundraising. One of Arnold’s deep commitment was erecting a.911 Memorial which we did with a bunch of wonderful people...I remember being with Arnie when we searched for the bolder it had to be just right.Suddenly the bolder appeared after Arnold took a bunch of us on a clime to great heights ,atop a mountain of boulders this is the one “rang out “as Arnold softly tapped the bolder with a wink in his eye said ,she’s the one.I spent lots of time with Arnold... Who wasn’t as hard boiled a egg as most people thought.Arnold loved his family so much, he would brag about them often... To me... it brought such joy to a man, who could never unsee the things he had seen as one of NYC Bravest (FDNY) Arnold was a highly decorated Member of the Service, humble but never the less. Lest Not we forget Arnold or our fallen on 911. Arnold was a member of.
