Florence Leona Jones Holfeltz passed through the veil into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on June 15, 2021. This joyous reunion, we are certain, was joined also by her mother, who Florence had not seen for 67 years. Her husband, James T. Holfeltz, Jr., and her son, Calvin Jay, must have been there too. Preceeding Florence was also three sisters, Frieda, Shirley, and Lois.
Florence was born on December 17, 1930, to Beatryce Olive Schaefermeyer and Marcellace Jones. She was the second of eight children (Frieda, Florence, Neva, Donna, Shirley, Lois, Marlene, and Carl). Raised in rural farm country in Uintah County, close to grandparents and many relatives, she had a loving and active childhood.
She married James T. Holfeltz, Jr., on September 3, 1947. The ride from Vernal to the S.L.C. temple began at 4:00 a.m. that morning. Florence and Jay were blessed with three daughters (Katherine, Linda, and Gail) and one son, Calvin Jay. Before the children came, they lived in a sheep wagon for a time. Times were difficult, but they made it on their own. Dad found work at Kennecott Copper and they bought a home in Magna, which mom was in until a year before her death.
Florence and Jay loved hooking up the travel trailer and enjoyed spending time relaxing and fishing at Granite Flats. Good and happy times were also spent with relatives at family reunions, camping at Perception Campground in Ogden Canyon by Pineview Reservoir.
Mom was with her daughter, Gail, the last ten months of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her daughters.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S., West Valley City, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Pleasant Green LDS Church, at 11:00 a.m. 8739 W. 3000 South, Magna. There will be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service.
