She was the youngest born of 12 children. She spent her youth in Fillmore, eventually graduating from Millard High School and then moving to Salt Lake City after graduation. LaVon married the love of her life, Larry D. Riggs, and has been married to him for 55 years. Larry cared for her at home for the past 2 years of her life as her illness progressed. LaVon worked for a brief time for Periodical Publishing upon first moving to Salt Lake. She later became a tax accountant and stayed with the same employer until retiring. LaVon enjoyed her career choice so much that she continued preparing tax returns for family and friends in her home after her retirement.
