It is with profound sadness and grief that we said good-bye to our beloved husband and papa on Jan 13th. Survived by his wife, Liselotte, daughters Claudia (Dave) and Britta, granddaughter Emily, younger siblings Christel and Reinhard, nephews, a niece, and step-grandsons.
Rolf was born in Wuppertal, Germany. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and worked in his profession as a master carpenter. In 1963 he married Lotti and started a family in North Vancouver. While building a home for his young family, Rolf attended BCIT and completed the construction management program. Always hard working, Rolf started his own company, Homar Construction Services, specializing in commercial projects including hospitals and shopping centers; one of his favorites was Expo 86.
Rolf was instrumental in the development of the Tyrol Ski + Mountain Club and the Tyrol Lodge in Whistler. For decades he volunteered with ski clubs and races as a FIS official, where he formed lifelong friendships and mentored many.
Rolf took his family on trips to Europe, and in retirement enjoyed travelling with Lotti, spending time at their cabin on Denman Island, and with his daughters’ families in Whistler and Grande Prairie/Kelowna. In later years as his mobility declined, he enjoyed sitting in his NV house admiring the ocean views and west coast sunsets.
A kind, generous, warm-hearted, devoted soul liked by everyone, Rolf was the consummate family man who loved nothing more than being with his family, friends, and menagerie of pets.
Our hearts are broken, but his memory will live on forever.
A service will be held when CoVid19 restrictions are lifted. Contributions in Rolf’s memory can be made to the SPCA.
